White Barn, Drakes Broughton

We obtained planning permission, under Class Q – agricultural buildings to dwellinghouses, to convert this once unassuming steel-framed barn into a welcoming, light and very spacious four-bedroom home, and later through further planning applications changed the use of agricultural land to residential and added a 3-bay carport with loft room annex accommodation, and then stables for several horses.

This conversion was somewhat challenging, working around and adapting the existing steel frame, and lowering the ground floor level by 750mm to facilitate a reasonable ceiling height to create a first-floor level which otherwise would not have had enough headroom.

This fabulous barn conversion now contains four generous bedrooms (all with well-appointed ensuite bath/shower rooms), an impressive entertaining living room and a bright, stunningly impressive bespoke kitchen/dining space looking out through the feature glazed gable. An air source heat pump provides hot water and heat throughout the building with underfloor heating, which has proved to be very efficient since completion.
